Amerie Castillo joined Courtenay Coye LLP in December 2023.

Amerie is currently an Associate and has been a member of the firm’s Transactions Department since January 2024. Her experience spans both transactional work and advisory services for clients across multiple sectors.

  • Since joining Courtenay Coye LLP, Amerie has contributed to a diverse range of legal matters, including:

    Intellectual Property Law – being the Intellectual Property Attorney responsible for all non-contentious matters related to the registration, renewal, and management of trademarks, patents, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights before the Belize Intellectual Property Office.

    Conveyancing and Real Estate Matters – advising and assisting with the structuring and drafting of documents for the sale of multimillion dollar properties; successfully closing land transactions; drafting Restrictive Agreements for upscale community villas located in the country’s prime tourism areas.

    Commercial Law – advising on the potential implications of loan facilities related to the Central Bank of Belize; assisting insurance companies in the management and resolution of insurance claims and payouts.

    Company Law – restructuring shareholder arrangements; drafting corporate documents and resolutions.

    Contract Law – reviewing Agreements between large-scale businesses operating both locally and internationally and providing guidance on their scope and application; negotiating settlement arrangements in matters involving breach of contract.

    Trusts/Estates and Probate – drafting of wills; creating of trusts; assisting with the administration of estates.

    Tax Law – providing strategic guidance on corporate tax obligations and implications, including the development of efficient tax structures for local and international entities.

    Labour Law – drafting employment contracts; advising companies on effective termination strategies; addressing post-termination issues for both employers and employees.

    Prior to joining Courtenay Coye LLP, Amerie served as Crown Counsel within the Ministry of Finance, Belize Tax Service Department, where she provided legal expertise to the Government of Belize in the interpretation and application of tax legislation.
